To wrap up another fantastic women in horror month we take a look at the short film from Brionny Kidd THE ROOM AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS. Originally created in 2010 the short is now featured on the popular Shudder channel. THE ROOM AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS is a beautifully shot gothic supernatural thriller. Slow burning and haunting it has a sinister charm that leads to intrigue and mystery.

A lonely girl has her first few days at an art school. Her roommates are a tad bit cruel but they stay quiet on the whereabouts of their former associate Carmen. She used to inhabit the room the girl is in but a strange presence seems to be looming. THE ROOM AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS is a head turner. The viewer will become consumed with the eccentric woman at the center of the story but may not feel successful towards the end of the picture. Like many gothic thrillers there is more at hand than what we are seeing played out on screen.  For some the beauty and mystery will be just enough. For others it won’t even crack the surface on a worthwhile scare.
