11/15/13-4:30 pm: Well we just got our press passes and checked in to the hotel. Let me tell you there is a line around the corner of people wanting to come in. Should be a great time as the attendees all seem excited for this 3 day event. Since traffic kept us on the road longer than normal we will miss the 5:00 pm screening of Post Mordem America 2021. So looks like we will hit the 7:30 pm screening of The Cemetery then stroll around a bit before The Puppet Monster Massacre at midnight. Look for a review on both early tomorrow as we are going to forgo the 2:30 am screening of Cockhammer in favor if sleep! We will update the journal again later tonight so be on the look out. Also make sure you are following our social media sites for exclusive extra coverage!
Here are some trailers and info for the things we will see tonight.
Deep in the Pennsylvania hills, a cemetery for those who died during exorcism remains a dark secret for the church. In 1671, hundreds of men, women, and children suffered in bloody, torturous rituals at the hands of priests unable to contain the evil of the possessed. Were these possessions real, or is the story a hoax to cover up the sins of the deranged priests thirsty for human blood? Bill and his team of cynical paranormal investigators plan to find out the truth. As the producer and host of the reality TV show “Ghost Seekers,” Bill and his crew have seen it all: abandoned prisons, haunted houses, and decrepit mental hospitals. Night after night of boring trips to empty run down buildings has left them sure that the dead stay dead and that ghosts are the furthest thing from being real. Their lack of faith will soon be repaid in blood. Armed with the church’s historical record, they set out into the wilderness to uncover this series of forgotten atrocities. The demons of the past are invited to return and the gory details of old sins are revealed as the possessed begin hunting the living. Alternately gut-punching hilarious and brutally violent, The Cemetery takes the best elements of the old-school slasher film and pushes them to the edge.
The Puppet Monster Massacre
A group of teens are challenged to spend a night in the Wagner mansion on the edge of town. Little do they know the owner has concocted a monstrosity in the basement.
11/16/13- 2:10 am Well the first day was busy to say the least as we were able to see the screenings of both The Cemetery and The Puppet Monster Massacre. Tons of people there when we got back and the celebrity rooms line was out the door.
We had a good time watching The Cemetery and look for a review up here later. There was a brief Q&A segment with actress Natalie Jean as she discussed how the film came to be, research that was needed for the part she played. What I found that was very interesting about her part is she only got the part because the other lead had to back out. Also she is from a stunt work background.
Soon after the film was over we headed back out to the floor to see how many more people where at the booths. We also got a chance to see Danny Trejo, Bill Moseley, Sid Haig and a few of the other celebs that were around. Then it was off to find the tent to check in on the concert that was playing there.
The event tent was filled with a nice amount of patrons as they listened to the metal of Macabre. We soon jetted out for food at an awesome spot called Portillo’s then headed back for the Puppet Monster Massacre screening.
The Puppet Monster Massacre was awesome so look for a review on that later too. We got a chance to speak with director Dustin Mills who has created about 6 movies since Puppet. He spoke of how his mom was a big help in making the puppets and how hard it was to make a film like this keeping a 40+ hour a week job. He paying bills doing music vids and stuff now but he has more projects in store.
After the screening we return back to our hotel amongst the laughter banter of the attendees in the festival. Good Day 1. Now I gotta sleep before a film starts in 2 hrs shall we say power nap?
Look for more on the official recap of Day 1 of The Days Of The Dead-Chicago on my Examiner page tomorrow! Sleep tight!
-btw ran into Jason Mewes heading back from Walmart with box of wine in hand. Should be a great weekend.
Well we just got finished with The Ladies of Elm Street panel along with watching John Taylor’s Leach. It was a good film and look for a review on it later. Didn’t get to catch the 5:30 showing of L.B.S. but I’ll look for a chance to catch it later.
Nice to see the families come out as there are tons of kids here unfortunately none are dressed up.
As expected there is a line out of the door again for the celebs room. The main floor is packed and all the vendors look pleased with the turn out. Next up for us is the Danny Trejo Panel followed by the Truth Or Dare screening with director Jessica Cameron.
Stay tuned for more updates from Days Of The Dead Horror Convention.
11-17-13 2:30 pm Well the horrible weather put a spoil on some of the plans for Day 3 but there was still a good crowd on the last day of Days of The Dead.
We didn’t get a chance to see any of the films of the day but instead got to talk more with The Cemetery’s Natalie Jean and Truth Or Dare’s Jessica Cameron and Heather Dorff. We got some singed goodies from the all so look for some giveaways this week.
Cameron also gave a little more on what’s going on with The Mexico Project! She told us the directors which we assumed were who they were in the first place. She also said there may be a chance to see this soon after the XX anthology. More than anything direct from her mouth was the quote “The directors involved in this film have done larger studio productions as of late so they want to go back to just making brutal, frightening fucking film!” The film will be shot in Rocky Point Mexico and will focus on one single character.
Which makes us stoked for what it could be. Look for more on The Mexico Project Soon!
We didn’t get to see the film I Am No One but we spoke with the director Jason Hoover that is giving us a copy to review for the site.
Outside of that the Blade Runner Panel was very interesting and you will get the full daily recap on the Examiner page tomorrow.
We are getting ready to head out of town but we look forward to the next one and all there is to come for it!
Thanks again to the Days of The Dead Horror Convention and the Marriott Chicago Schaumburg.
